Learning On The Land Newsletter
The monthly newsletter for the Conservation Education Program. Each
issue explores an outdoor topic in depth, complete with continued classroom
and outdoor projects.
Forest Keepers
This Junior Ranger program offers parents and children an opportunity
to complete activities in three different age groups (six and under;
seven to nine; and ten and up). Activities focus on wildlife watching,
cultural heritage, and exploring San Juan and Rio Grande Public Lands.
Participants take a completed workbook to a local office (or you can
mail it) to receive a Forest Keepers pin.
Keepin' Up
Designed as a companion piece to Forest Keepers, Keepin' Up identifies
many family-appropriate hikes in the San Juans. There are four places
for participants to journal about four different hikes they take. Return
a completed hiking journal to an office for a small prize. This program
is intended to get families out and moving on public lands.
Scavenger Hunt
The Scavenger Hunt is a fun activity for kids of all ages to complete
when out on a family hike, or doing a school field trip. Kids look for
birds, insects, rocks, etc. while enjoying the outdoors. Make it a bingo
contest, or see who can find all the items first!
Nature Trail Guide
This self-guided nature trail is designed to be used on trails in the
montane and subalpine areas, where you might find spruce, fir, and aspen
trees. Take it along on any hike in that area, and learn something new.
