Summer Naturalist Hikes

Guided Naturalist Hikes
Every Tuesday, and Saturday from June 23 thru September 1.
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Hikes are free and take place at Purgatory Ski Area (Durango Mountain Resort).
Topics that will be covered include San Juan Mountain ecosystems, geology, plants, wildlife, fire ecology, and public lands. Participants should bring water, sun screen and a rain jacket.

Members Only Event-Wine & Cheese Hike with a Llama - June 28.
Join Lois the Llama Lady and an SJMA naturalist for this special, members only event. Learn about the beauties of our natural world while riding the chair lift at DMR, then hiking (5 moderately easy miles roundtrip) to a beautiful vista of the Animas Valley. Enjoy wine, cheese and crackers before returning for the day. Bring your own water, snacks and lunch. Cost: $10 person. Durango Mountain Resort. Registration required. Contact Gabi Morey 385-1256.

Walk, Lunch & Wine with a Llama -July 26 and August 23.
Join Lois the Llama Lady and an SJMA naturalist for an incredible day on the mountain. Ride the chairlift at DMR and meet Lois at the top with her llama, who will be carrying your wine, cheese, crackers and lunches. During your hike an SJMA volunteer naturalist will talk about the wildflowers, geology, wildlife and trees of the area. Hike is a moderately easy 5 miles roundtrip. Cost: $25/person, $45/couple.
